Turn Friday into Erev Shabbos #255 – The Bridge of the Weekday and of Shabbos

I want to share with you an idea from Rav Avram Schorr shlita's new sefer לקח והליבוב נזר הפרשה on Vayikra. This week's parsha opens and begins with a bris milah and the mitzvah of bris milah is an interesting mitzvah whether you're listening to this parshas tazria or any time of the year. The mitzvah of bris milah is to sanctify in a very base very mundane place on the human body to elevate transform it through the mitzvah of milah and based on this Rav Schorr talks about the hiskashrus the place of union between the body and the soul the physical and the spiritual that we are able to create that connection and create that transformation. And indeed the Rama writes in אורח חיים סימן ו we say in birchas asher yatzar this is a bracha when a person comes out of the bathroom. If a person was able to eliminate in a healthy way then you don't take that for granted it's not a given but a person makes a bracha say thank you Hashem and the bracha asher yatzar it concludes u'mafli la'asos. The word mafli means pela it's a wonder it's a wonder it's something which is beyond comprehension it's a pela. What's the pela so the Rama says you know what the pela is the hiskashrus of ruchnius and gashmius that a body a body can hold a soul body and soul are antithetical to one another body and soul are opposites of one another how in the world can the body hold the soul it's a pela it's a pela u'mafli la'asos that the body can hold the soul the physical can hold the spiritual that's a pela it's takeh a pela. So what's true about the bris and it's true about the body altogether says Rav Schorr this is why we're sharing this today as we turn our Friday into Erev Shabbos is true about Shabbos Kodesh כי שבת יש בו כוח התקשרות הגוף מן הנשמה שפת אמת ניכר להוסיף כי עיקר השפעת שבת דמעשה ודווקא על ידי תוספת שבת. When we get ready early on a Friday when we're prepared when we count up we don't count down we take shabbos in early tosefes shabbos we don't wait for three stars to come out we don't wait for the sun to set we don't wait for shabbos to come upon us till we have no choice but we proactively we eagerly we elect to take shabbos on early tosefes shabbos extra shabbos and that's hiskashrus על ידי זה מקשר ששת ימי המעשה על קדושת שבת. shabbos is spiritual shabbos is a portion of the world to come six days the week are mundane we work and we're involved in the material world where's the union where's the place of connection where's the bridge of the physical and the spiritual of the weekday and of shabbos in tosefes shabbos when we bring shabbos in early so chevra we're turning our Friday into Erev Shabbos get ready early be waiting for shabbos don't make shabbos wait for you and if there are options bring it in a little bit earlier and even if you're making late shabbos make an early late shabbos get ready early for late shabbos ובזה מקשר היומדי הנשמה ששת ימי המעשה שהם עניין התגברות כוחות הגוף ועל ידי השבת מתגבר על כוחות הגוף ומקשרם אל הנשמה.
